We find ourselves in the intimate festival grounds of the inner circle of the dutch burn. It is there where Airmaid has her debut.

She stands in front of you as tall as another human enveloped in the light of the sun and at night with shine light upon her.

Sandra would bring different festival goers to the piece and give private explanations of the background of the story of transformation told within it.

The artwork Airmaid depicts the final moment of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid. At sunrise, after discovering that the prince has married another woman, the Little Mermaid faces a heartbreaking choice: she can kill the prince and return to the sea, or accept her fate and turn to sea foam.

Instead of harming him, she chooses love and compassion. She throws the knife into the sea and allows herself to dissolve into the waves. Given her sacrifice she is transformed into one of the “daughters of the air,” spirits who have the possibility of gaining an immortal soul through acts of goodness.
